He put his arms around me as a few tears fell down my cheeks.
“I just can’t stop thinking about what would have happened if the police didn’t show up.” I said.
Chris dried my eyes with his sleeve.
“They did show up though didn’t they?” He said kissing me.
“You know Chris, you’re my world.” I said putting my head on his chest and closing my eyes.
“You’re my world too darling, you’re my world too.”
The next morning I woke up still in Chris’s arms. My head was pounding and I was shattered. I looked over at Chris who was already awake.
“Morning babe.” He said noticing I was awake.
“Morning.” I replied moving closer to him.
“When are we going to the station?” He asked running his fingers through my hair.
I had completely forgotten.
“We’ll get it out of the way this morning if you want.” I said smiling weakly.
“Sounds like a plan.” He said kissing me on the cheek.
Suddenly there was a knock at the door and I jumped slightly.
“Don’t worry it’ll only be Jayne.” He said reading my mind.
I got out of bed and stood in front of the mirror, patting my hair down slightly. We were both already changed so Chris got up and opened the door. Sure enough it was Jayne. I ran over to the door and threw my arms around her.
“Thank god you’re both alright!” She said hugging me.
“We wouldn’t have been without you.” Chris said.
Jayne stayed for a little while before she had to leave. I had a shower and got changed into some clean clothes. I couldn’t be bothered with makeup and when Chris came out of the bathroom my nerves were already building. We were about to leave for the police station before I stopped.
“Chris I feel funny.” I said grabbing hold of the side of the bed.
The room was spinning.
“What’s wrong?” He said running over to me and putting his arms around me.
“I feel di-“ I didn’t finish my sentence. I collapsed.
The next thing I knew I was laying in the medical room in the studios with Chris by my side. I opened my eyes and turned to look at Chris who was holding my hand.
He breathed a sigh of relief. “Oh thank god.” He said quietly drying his eyes.
“What happened?” I asked him.
“You collapsed darling.” Chris said.
“Down to stress, so try to take in easy Mrs.” Molly one of our medics said gently.
“Oh god, we were supposed to be at the station!” I said turning to Chris.
“Don’t worry, I’ve rang them, they’re coming to see us later.” He replied kissing my hand.
Half an hour later I was let out and was told to take it easy. Chris drove us both back to my house and when we arrived I sat cuddled up with him on the sofa. Chris held me close and I closed my eyes.
“Do you feel alright sweetheart?” He asked worriedly.
“Not too bad, I’m just tired.” I said putting my head on his shoulder,
I must have fallen asleep as a little while later Chris was gently shaking me awake.
“The police are here darling.” He said quietly into my ear.
I opened my eyes and sat up slightly before rubbing my eyes.
“I’m not ready for this Chris.” I said quietly looking down.
“I’ll be here holding your hand, it’ll be tough but we’ll make it.” He said kissing me romantically as he stood up to answer the door.
I fixed my hair and straightened my clothes as I heard the sound of voices in the hallway.
“Miss Barber, P.C Smith and P.C Jones.” One officer said as they both walked in showing their ID.
Chris sat down next to me and took hold of my hand protectively as I nodded.
A few hours later I was even more exhausted but the police had left. It had been emotional having to relive moments that I never wished to think of again and I could tell Chris was finding it equally as tough. They told me they would ring in a couple of days once they had spoken to Stephen. The second the door had closed I leant against it and closed my eyes. Chris walked in and put his arms around me.
“I’m so proud of you.” He said kissing me on the lips.
“I couldn’t have done it without you.” I replied putting my head on his shoulder.
The next morning was the 2nd live show of Dancing on Ice. I wasn’t really in the mood for a big show but yet again I was trying to act like everything was fine. The only person who really knew how I felt was Chris. We had just finished in hair and makeup and were in the process of getting changed for the show. I left on my gorgeous necklace from Chris which I wore every day, before putting on a tight fitting above the knee red dress and black killer heels which had been chosen by my stylist. Chris was wearing a black suit and a red tie which matched my dress. I walked up behind me before fixing his tie into place and sorting out his collar.
“Are you ready for this?” He said turning round so he was facing me and resting his hands on my waist.
“I’m not sure...” I said relaxing into his arms
There was a knock at the door.
“Miss Barber, we’ll need you on set in 5 minutes.”
I sighed.
“Don’t worry beautiful, It’ll be over soon, all of it.” He said referring to the show and Steve.
“I can’t wait.” I said smiling weakly.
We walked out of my dressing room hand in hand and when we arrived on set he hugged me before kissing my cheek.
“Try your best with tonight sweetheart, I know you don’t really want to be here and I don’t blame you” He whispered in my ear.
“I will.” I said smiling.
Reluctantly he left for his seat and I began talking to Robin and Nicky. Eventually we were on air.
We were roughly 15 minutes into the show and I already wanted to leave, this wasn’t helped by the fact that yet again tension was building between myself and Jason. He seemed more bothered about throwing insults at me instead of paying attention to the skating. But what he said next truly hurt me.
“Don’t bother listening to Karen, we all know the only reason she’s on the show is because of her affair with Chris.” Jason said to Hayley and Dan before I was about to speak.
The audience fell silent and Dan glared at him.
“Excuse me.” I said turning on Jason. I’d had enough.
“Oh you heard Karen, it’s common knowledge he’s the reason you left Steve.” He snapped.
Jason had always been fond of Stephen; I should have seen this coming. An advert break was promptly called.
As tears rolled down my cheeks I walked towards him and I felt Holly’s hand on my shoulder.
“I suggest that you get your facts straight before you start hurling out accusations Jason.” I said quietly.
He just glared at me and rolled his eyes.
“You don’t have a clue what I’ve been through recently, it’s been hell!” I shouted, the room was silent.
“I’m sure.” He replied sarcastically
“Oh bloody well stuff this.” I said anger filling me up
I walked away from him before I did something I was going to regret. I kept walking past my seat and out of the studios into the corridors. I stooped as I heard footsteps behind me and turned around to see Dan
“Come here Kaz.” He said pulling me into a hug when he reached me
“He just doesn’t understand.” I said sighing.
“I could have flipping killed him.” Dan said angrily.
“That makes two of us.” I replied. “Anyway, I’ll let you get back to the show.” I added realising the break would be over soon.
“Aren’t you coming?” He asked.
“No, I’m going to have 5.” I said
I walked into the dressing room and locked the door behind me before sitting on the edge of the bed. I knew I had been childish, storming out like that, but I wasn’t prepared to take nonsense from anyone tonight, let alone Jason. I dried my eyes and kicked off my heels before putting my head in my hands as more tears fell. About 15 minutes later there was a knock at the door.
“Kaz.” Chris said gently from the other side of the door.
I got up and unlocked it letting Chris in. He shut the door behind me before hugging me. I put my head on his shoulder and breathed in his familiar smell of Lynx aftershave.
“Oh sweetheart.” He said noticing the tears falling.
“I just can’t cope with all this for much longer.” I said as he gently stroked my back.
“I would have come to you quicker but everyone insisted that I waited until the half an hour break.” He apologised.
“It’s alright, I understand.” I said
“I can’t believe he dared to speak to you like that, I’m speaking to him after the show as that wasn’t on. I won’t let him treat you like that.” Chris said with anger in his voice.
I just moved closer to him in response and he ran his fingers through my hair.
A while later he took hold of my hand.
“Are you coming back for the results show?” Chris asked. “You can sit with me if you want.” He added.
“Okay.” I said smiling slightly. “I better get ready then.”
“You already look gorgeous.” He replied.
“Chris I look like I bloody panda.” I said giggling slightly.
“A very cute panda though.” Chris said resting his hands on my waist as I removed my makeup ready to re-apply it.
Eventually we walked back to rink side; I was still holding Chris’s hand. I looked away as I saw Jason glance over and sat down on the other side of Chris. As I sat down the audience clapped and I smiled weakly. Chris put his arms around me so I was sat close to him and we stayed like that even when the cameras started rolling.
“I love you.” He whispered as one of the couples in the skate off took to the ice.
“I love you too.” I replied quietly before putting my head on his shoulder to get a perfect view of the skate.
When the live results show finished I had cheered up a little bit, but I just wanted to go home. I spoke to most of the cast and crew who wanted to make sure I was alright however I didn’t really want to talk about it.
“I’ll meet you in your dressing room in a few minutes.” Chris said kissing me.
“Ok.” I said before walking off in the direction of my dressing room.
As I entered I got changed out of my show dress and slipped on some black leggings, a black vest top and my denim jacket over the top. I sat on the bed waiting for Chris, trying to put tonight’s events, the police and Stephen out of my mind but failing miserably. I was interrupted from my train of thought by a knock at the door followed by Chris walking in.
“Hey gorgeous.” He said shutting the door behind him and sitting next to me.
“Hiya.” I replied as he put his arms around me.
“I’ve spoken to Jason, I was all for sacking him, but I was told we had to give him 1 more chance.” He informed.
“Thank you.” I said kissing him romantically
“It’s no problem.” He replied
“We better go home in case the police call.” I said.
“Oh yeah.” Chris said sadly, the studios were our only moderate escape from reality.
He took hold of my hand and we walked out to the car, Chris still in his suit. When we arrived back home Chris checked his phone for any news from the police and so far there was none. We cuddled up on the sofa and enjoyed each other’s company.

The next morning I was awoken by the sound of talking. I opened my eyes and Chris wasn’t next to me. I looked around the room before getting out of bed and putting on my dressing gown. I walked out of the bedroom surprising a yawn and saw Chris on the house phone. He smiled as he saw me and put his arm around my waist.
“Who is it?” I whispered.
“Jayne.” He said quietly.
I nodded before kissing his cheek and slipping out of his arms to walk downstairs. I went into the kitchen and made a cup of tea and a few minutes later Chris came down the stairs. He stood behind me and rested his hands on my waist before gently kissing his way up my neck.
“Morning.” I said smiling.
“Morning.” He said between kisses.
I turned around in his arms and kissed him passionately.
“What did Jayne want?” I asked afterwards.
“Just asking how you were.” He said smiling and brushing a curtain of hair from out of my face.
“Oh right.” I said relaxing into his arms.
We were interrupted by the sound of the phone ringing again. I’ll go, I said before walking into the living room to answer it. Chris nodded and followed me before standing behind me and resting his hands on my waist. It was the police. They told me that Stephen would be appearing in court 1 week today and that he had decided to plead not guilty. I was appearing on the same day to give evidence with my 2 witnessed Jayne and Chris. I thanked them and ended the call.
I turned around so I was facing Chris and he hugged me gently holding me close to him.
“He’s pleading not guilty.” I said feeling like bursting into tears.
“Oh darling, they’ll see right through him.” He said
“But what if they don’t?” I asked as a few tears rolled down my cheeks. “We’re in court a week today.”
“We’ll get through this together, I promise.” He replied running his fingers through my hair.
I put my head on his shoulder and breathed in his familiar smell of Lynx aftershave.
“God, I don’t know what I’d do without you.” I said into his shoulder
“Well you’ll never have to know, because I’ll always be here.” He responded kissing the top of my head.
Chris gently lifted me up and put me on the sofa. He sat down next to me and put his arms around me, so I was sitting close to him. I put my head on his shoulder and closed my eyes. I must have fallen back asleep as when I woke up the afternoon sun was streaming through the living room windows. I sat up slightly and turned to look at Chris who had the motor racing on quietly
“Hey sweetheart.” He said taking his gaze off the television and turning to look at me.
“Hiya.” I said smiling at him.
“How are you feeling?” He asked.
“Better, I think I’m ready to face this.” I said looking into his eyes.
Chris smiled before saying “we’re.”
I smiled back before Chris leant in and kissed me passionately.
