In the night I woke up several times in pain but Chris was always awake with me until I fell back asleep. In the morning I woke up and looked at Chris who somehow was still awake.
“Morning.” I said kissing his cheek.
“Morning beautiful.” He said smiling.
“Sorry about last night.” I said referring to my constant waking up.
“It’s no problem, I love you.” He replied still holding me close.
“I love you too.” I said putting my head on his chest.
We eventually both got up and got dressed before walking down the corridors to the rink, I presumed for training.
“I’ve got a surprise for you Kaz.” Chris said nervously stopping me just before we got to the rink.
“What’s that?” I asked confused.
“Just close your eyes.” He replied simply.
I closed my eyes and I felt Chris’s hands gently cover them to make sure I definitely couldn’t see. I giggled uncontrollably as he tried to lead me through the corridors. I had no idea what was going on. We both eventually stopped and I felt Chris’s hands move from my eyes to rest on my waist.
“And open.” He whispered quietly.
I opened my eyes and took in my surroundings overcome with emotions. I looked around the rink which was in darkness apart from some beautiful candles placed on the rink on a red carpet that read ‘Karen Barber, Will you marry me?’ Tears began to fall down my face and I glanced at Chris lost for words. He got down on one knee taking hold of my hand and pulling out a box from his pocket. Inside was the most gorgeous ring I had ever seen.
“Karen, I want to spend the rest of my life by your side you complete me and I couldn’t imagine my life without you in it. I love you more than you could ever imagine. Karen Anne Barber, will you marry me?” He said looking into my eyes.
I could barely speak; the tears were flowing thick and fast. “Of course I will!” I said beaming.
He put the ring on my finger before pulling me into a gentle hug and spinning me round. The Dancing on Ice cast and crew began to pile out from out of their hiding places and the champagne began to flow. I stood closer to him and kissed him passionately, his hands rested on my waist and for a minute it felt like there was only the two of us in the room
“I can’t believe you’ve done all of this for me.” I said drying my eyes as we broke away.
“I just want to be with you for the rest of my life.” He said as I smiled.
“Likewise.” I replied before kissing him again.
The kiss intensified and I knew every eye in the room was on us. Today was the best day of my life.
All of the cast and crew came and congratulated us and eventually we got some more time on our own. We had moved the celebrations into one of the party rooms. I stood in the corner with my arms around Chris’s neck with his hands wrapped gently around my neck.
“I love you so much.” I said looking into his eyes.
