THUD.
That was all I heard, followed by a cry of pain that I hadn't heard in quite a while. They were practising with those silks again for their next routine. I couldn't deny that it looked beautiful, and Chris and Jayne both made it look so easy. But it had always made me nervous, even since before Me and Chris had gotten together.
The routine was going well, and it was at the point now where it was Chris' turn to hand upside down in mid-air beingsupported by those terrifying silk things! I turned away for a second as Dan tapped me on the shoulder, and that was when I heard the thud, followed by the cry of pain, followed by Jayne shouting "Chris!" In pure worry for her best-friend. I slowly turned-around from Dan to face the rink and it felt like everything had gone into slow-motion as I faced the sight infront of me. Snapping-out of my trance, I could feel a look of pure shock growing across my face and I tried to make a run for it as I stepped the first skate onto the ice, Dan tried to hold-me back but there was no stopping-me now. I skated-over to Chris as fast as I possibly could.
When I got there, Jayne was already crouched-down next to Chris, who was still led-there on the ice. I joined-her, crouching down next to Jayne, nearer to Chris as I watched Chris rest his forehead against the ice as he tried to control his eratic breathing due to the pain. He had one arm clutched across his ribs and the other stretched out infront of him still from the fall. "What happened?!" I asked Jayne in a panic as I felt Dan's presence behind-me, rubbing my arms, trying to keep-me as calm as he possibly could. "He moved too quickly in the silks and he slipped-out of them. Luckily he didn't land on his head, but he fell pretty heavily on his side and I think he twisted his leg a bit too....." Jayne explained to me and I winced for Chris who was now trying to sit-up slightly, but it was killing-him to do so. "Medics!" Jayne called-out loudly as Chris managed to get-himself sat-up next to the both of us, Dan had disappeared-now to give Chris some space.
The medics slowly managed to get Chris onto a stretcher and took him throught to Sharon, the physio for Dancing On Ice. Luckily Sharon knew Chris well so she knew that he could be a rubbish patient. With Sharon's help, I assisted Chris in sliding him across from the stretcher and onto the bed. "Right then Chris, where does it hurt?" Sharon asked-him as I took the hand that wasn't clutching his ribs, into his own hands. "My ribs and my leg." Chris replied, only just managing to finsih the sentence before he then scrunched his eyes up in pain and held his breath for a couple of seconds before he then let out another shriek of pain. He was squeezing my hand so tightly I wouldn't be surprised if I ended-up with a broken-hand. "Which leg Chris?!" Sharon asked-him. "The Right One....." He managed to blurt-out amongst the pain. "It's alright sweetheart." I tried to soothe as my spare hand ran itself through Chris' short yet unpredicatable hair and gently stroked-it, trying to calm Chris down a little-bit. Sharon rolled Chris' t-shirt up slightly to reveal some nasty bruising around his cage, I gasped slightly at the sight of it. Sharon then gently pressed her hands against Chris' ribbed and he flinched-away in pain, I sighed in sympathy for Chris. "Right, I'm pretty sure that there's at-least one break in there, so we best get him to the hospital." Sharon informed both me and Chris.
At the hospital, Chris' ribs were x-rayed which confirmed that he had a fractured rib aswell as some bad bruising on some others. A bone in his leg had cracked slightly but it wasn't a full-on break so the Doctor informed-us that with lots of rest it should heal-up in a few-weeks time. Chris had been given crutches to support-him in getting around and about as the leg healed. Leaving the hospital three hours later, I tried my best to convince Chris that he should go home and rest, but he was having none of it and was determined to back to the ice-rink and fight through the pain. I reluctantly agreed, but there was no way he was skating! Not that he could anyway, he could barely walk let-alone skate.....
We arrived at the rink and Jayne approached-us as Chris hobbled-in on his crutches, each and every movement causing him pain to his ribs. "Chris! What the heck are you doing here? Go Home!" Jayne told-him firmly. "Jayne I'm fine....." He tried to convince his best-friend and skating-partner, but she didn't believe-him and neither did I. "Fine? I'd hardly call a cracked leg-bone and a fractured-rib fine sweetheart!" I told Chris and Jayne gasped as I spoke about his injuries. "Oooh Ouchy Chris!" Jayne said as she gently hugged Chris. "You think that's bad Jayne, look at this." I said to Jayne as I carefully lifted-up Chris' t-shirt to reveal the horrible bruising against his ribs. "Alright, can we leave-me alone now?!" Chris told-us both frustratedly, which I could see had caused him pain to do so as he clutched at his ribs again. "Okay Sweetheart. Let's get you sat-down ey?!" I told Chris, before I then helped him to sit-down in a nearby chair, fetching him a glass of water and the pain-killers that he had been prescribed.
A couple of hours later and the pain-killers finally seemed to be taking their effect on Chris! I approached-him as he drowsily watched the ice-skating professionals run through their group-routine with Jayne. "Are you okay baby?!" I asked-him. "Hmmm? Urm.....Yeah I'm alright....." He responded-with, and his answer told-me that he was beginning to fall-asleep. "I think we need to get you home sweetheart so you can have a proper-rest. Remember what the Doctor said, the only way you'll recover is if you're bed-bound for the next few-weeks. You need to take it easy." I told Chris and he agreed, he was too worn-out to arue with me now as I helped-him to his feet and then handed-him his crutches. Jayne skated-over to us both as she spotted-us leaving. "Are you two off home then?!" Jayne asked and I nodded at her in reply. "Oh well thank-goodness for that!" Jayne replied as Chris hobbled along a little-further with his crutches. "Now listen to me Chris! I don't want to even know that you exist until you are fully-recovered okay?!" Jayne told-him firmly but she couldn't stay like for that as a soft-smile spread across her face. "Take it easy alright Chris?!" She finished with, giving him another gentle-hug ebfore she turned her attention to me. "You best ook after my best-friend Barber!" Jayne joked with and I laughed tiredly. "I will Jayne don't you worry." I said before turning to face Chris and then heading off home.
When we got home, I tucked Chris up in bed and then stood-next to him as I gently leaned-down to kiss him on the lips. "You Mr Dean, have had me worried all day long. Are you okay my love?! " I asked-Chris softly as I gently stroked my hand through his hair once-again. "Hurting a bit....." He told-me quietly. "Yeah well I'm not surprised, try and sleep my darlin'. You'll start to feel-better once you've had a good-night's sleep." I told him in what was practically a whisper as he rested his head back against the pillow. "I Love You." I whispered to him as his eyes closed and then he began to fall-asleep. "Love You....." He trailed-off as I gave-him one last kiss on the lips before walking-around the edge of the bed and climbing into next to him. I waited until I thought he looked settled-into his sleeping before decided to try and sleep myself. Hopefully the recovery wouldn't be too long.
