This is just a one shot I came up with... I actually started it last Thursday but only just got round to posting it, so here we are. Hope you like it!

"You're up early..." Chris turned over in bed and grumbled as he sensed Karen's movement, he was well aware of the fact she'd been up at least an hour, he heard her have a shower and was now finding some clothes to wear and had Jenna in her arm, Jenna was the one that gave away to Chris that they were up, Karen must have taken her downstairs to feed her right before her shower and left her in the carrier at the bottom of the bed.
"You know I can be up extra early when I want to be..." Karen protested. "You're just being ultra lazy." she turns to Jenna, "isn't your daddy lazy?" to which she just giggles an kicks her legs a little. Karen then put Jenna down again while she pulled her clothes out the wardrobe, dropped her towel and pulled on her underwear, Chris was now fully awake and watching intently, he'd propped himself up on his elbow and was just staring at his wife. He continued to watch as Karen smothered her body in moisturiser before pulling her white cotton dress over her head.
"Chris can you do this up for me please baby?" she asks, flopping herself down on the bed with her back to Chris so he could fix the zip.
She then jumps up again being careful not to knock Jenna off the bed in the process. "Why don't you sit with your daddy while mummy finishes getting ready?" she says picking her daughter up lifting her high above her head, 'flying' her over and plonking her down next to Chris resulting in the 15 month old little girl to burst into giggles. "was that fun was it?" Karen asks, again getting a response of laughter. Chris wraps his arms around his daughter and kisses her head.
Karen continues to get ready, she blow dries her hair now that it's safe and she doesn't have to worry about waking Chris up, and then applies a bit of make up. Once she's ready she takes Jenna back off Chris and takes her downstairs while he gets ready.
"Come on I want to be out by half past 10." she tells Chris sternly.
"What's the hurry?" Chris says glancing at the clock on the nightstand which reads 9.37. "Where are we even going?"
"I've told you about three times this week! We're going to that park, and we're meeting Jayne there later but I want us to spend some time there first before the others get there."
"Why would you want to do that..." Chris mutters but Karen just about hears him.
"Why have you got a problem with all the arrangements I make? Every time! I just wanted us to go as a family is that alright? We're meeting Jayne at 12 anyway, that only gives us half an hour alone is that alright?!"
"Fine..." Chris huffs and rolls out of bed to make his way to the shower under Karen's glare.
Half an hour later he's downstairs complaining Karen hasn't been shopping and there's nothing to eat.
"Do you actually need to eat? We're having a picnic, it's going to be a big lunch, and it's not exactly like we're going to be eating late. We'll eat about half 12." Karen opens the cupboard for herself anyway to see if there actually is anything, which there isn't much. Not for breakfast anyway.
"Here have this," she says, reaching into the fruit bowl at the other end of the counter an breaking two bananas apart, one for each of them. She catches Chris turn his nose up but ignores the expression and they both eat their breakfast within a minute.
"Can you get Jenna in the car while I find some shoes please?" Karen asks politely and nods at Chris across the table, and kisses Jenna on the forehead as she stands up. She runs up to the bedroom and opens the wardrobe, the smaller separate one she has just for shoes. And bags. She decided on a high pair of wedges with white flowers up the foot and a thin ankle strap. Slipping her feet into them she's about to leave again but decides she wants a jacket. Even though it looked like a gorgeous spring morning, who knows what the weather could do later on? Sighing as she realises her favourite jacket is in the laundry basket, she opts for her denim jacket, grabs it and her handbag and hurries out the door.
"Ready?" Chris asks her, leaning across to kiss her lips before they drove off.
"Yep." she smiled, and took hold of his hand for a moment before he needed it back to take off the hand break. "oops."
The park they were going to was about half an hour ago, they'd been there a few times the previous year. In the summer they had the outdoor pools, which Jenna had loved, and she was going to love it even more this year when they came in the summer. Karen hoped she'd be walking by then, she was yet to take her first few steps. She could stand by pushing herself up with the help of something like a chair, and she could stand without assistance too, but she hadn't taken any steps yet.
Jenna fell asleep five minutes after they'd started driving, Karen watched her lovingly through the mirror, her adorable little princess.
"Huggghhhh!" Chris sighs heavily as he pulls on the hand break and stopped behind a long queue of traffic.
"Ssh baby you'll wake Jen." Karen says stroking his arm and reaches up to kiss his neck.
A couple of minutes later an ambulance and a police car whizz past them causing Chris to let out more grunts and sighs, if there was an accident they were going to be there a lot longer than they wanted to be.
"Baby sshh... It's okay.... Since when did traffic stress you out so much?" Karen asked, stroking his hand and looking up at him.
"Meh... I'm just tired. Love you." he leaned down towards Karen and kissed her, pressing their lips together for a few seconds. Pulling away slowly, Karen craned her neck out the window and saw no movement, so she slipped her arm out of the seatbelt and moved herself closer to Chris, her arms wrapped around his waist as she reached up to kiss him tenderly.
"I - love... You - too..." Karen replied between the kisses that were getting faster and more intense, things were
moving too quickly for the car. Chris sneakily slipped his hand up Karen's dress, softly caressing her upper thigh, sending tingles through her body. She then moved one hand from chris's back and grazed his thigh, turning him on even more than he already was. They carried on sneakily moving their hands around any where they could reach, caressing and touching tenderly, until a car horn interrupted them and they realised the queue of traffic was now just waiting for them to move.
Giggling and blushing a little they shifted back in their seats and Chris tried to start the car as quickly as he could so he wasn't holding anyone up, and ended up stalling it in the process. Karen moved uncomfortably and crossed her legs over, fiddling with her fingers as she tried not to laugh at Chris getting frustrated.
After that they got to the park in no time at all, and they got out the pushchair for Jenna, that was chris's job to sort out, while Karen got her out the car and got the picnic blanket and basket of food for later, putting it back in after she realised it made much more sense to go and get it when they needed it. It took Chris about ten seconds to fold out the push chair yet when Karen tried it took her more like ten minutes, even after a whole year had passed. Jenna strapped in and the blanket underneath in the basket part, they set off to find a nice spot to sit in. The sun was already blazing strong and bright and it wasnt even midday yet, so they set up camp under a large breezy tree so they had a bit of shade.
"Wing! Wing!" Jenna shouted excitedly as she set her eyes on the playground and Karen put the brake on the buggy, laying out the blanket for them to sit on.
"You want to go on the swing do you sweetie?" Karen giggled. "let's get some cream on you then we can go play." Karen spent the next five minutes smothering her daughter's skin with a high factor of sunscreen, she wasn't taking any risks. She then spent another five minutes wrestling with her to try and get a hat on her, but she wasn't having any of it. She flicked it off every time and squealed so eventually Karen gave up and just decided to keep an eye on her and make sure she wasn't in the sun to long.
"Wing!" she said again and stretched out her arms so Karen would carry her. She carried her over and strapped her into one of the baby swings and started pushing her gently, Jenna was soon laughing hysterically and it cracked Karen up - her cute baby giggle. Chris came up and took a few pictures, and then he and Karen swapped and she went back to guard their things just in case. The park wasn't busy at all when they arrived but being it a beautiful day it was going to fill up as the day went on.
It wasn't long before Jayne and her kids turned up, even if she was late just as usual, nothing changes. Karen spotted her right away as she sat sun bathing on the blanket, legs stretched out, and waved Jayne over trying to get her attention, while Chris was still playing with Jenna. They'd now moved from the swings to the slide, Chris had to sit her at the top and then give her a slight push, and jump down to the bottom with his arms out wide to catch her at the bottom, and since she found it hysterical they repeated that over and over until Chris got fed up with it, because it seemed Jenna never would. Every so often he'd glance over and grin at Karen, and he happened to do this at the time Jayne was making her way over so he carried Jenna back over to their spot.
Jayne was trying to lay out her blanket without the breeze catching it but Kieron and Jess weren't helping a lot by just running around, and Karen was trying to keep her own blanket down, but they managed it in the end.
"Hi Chris," Jayne greeted him as he came and sat down between herself and Karen, with Jenna on his lap.
"Hello. Where's my mate Phillip then?" he asked, leaning back.
"He had to work I'm afraid... I'm sure you two can have a lads night out at some point soon."
“Well please tell him I want to see him soon!”
“Chris, you could text him and make arrangements yourself you know, instead of using Jayne.” Karen pointed out, laughing.
The three of them sat and talked for a bit while Jess and Keiron ran off to play, and Jenna sat on Chris’s lap. She wanted to get up and join them but couldn’t, but Jess had promised her she’d come back and Jenna seemed to understand as it left a smile on her face for a few seconds until she couldn’t see Jess anymore, she then turned herself around on Chris’s lap and tried to stand on his legs and let herself fall against his chest.
“What’s up little one?” he asked her in a soppy voice, grabbing her by the waist and pulling her away from him slightly. She just collapsed into him again and whined. “I think it’s time for lunch.” He announced.
Jayne went off to go and find her kids while Karen started to get out the food and Chris comforted Jenna the best he could.
“Mummy I don’t like it.” Jess muttered throwing the sandwich in front of her after one tiny nibble.
“Yes you do sweetie, it’s what you have at home. Look you haven’t even tried it!” Jayne said, picking up the sandwich and giving it back to her daughter.
“No it’s different!” she protested.
“It’s not.. look your brother is eating his no problem aren’t you Keiron?”
“Yeah Jess,” he retorted.
“Okay Kieron enough. Come on both of you eat up please. If you don’t, you won’t be having an ice cream after.” She bribed, knowing it would work as she cast her glance over to the ice cream van they were relatively close to, both her children followed her gaze and their eyes lit up with excitement. Jayne smiled to herself contently as she then watched her children go completely silent and eat up their lunch.
Meanwhile Jenna sat between Chris’s legs while Karen fed her her baby food and half a banana, whilst trying to eat their own lunch at the same time as it took Jenna about five minutes to eat each spoonful.
The second Jess had finished her last mouthful of the ‘yucky sandwich’ as she’d referred to it as, she jumped up and looking lovingly at Jayne.
“What’s that look for missy?”
“Ice cream!” she exclaimed, a grin that spread from ear to ear appeared on the little girl’s face.
“Not yet honey. Why don’t you go and play for a little while and then when you come back you can have an ice cream.”
“Can Jenna come and play mummy?”
“Karen will bring Jenna over when she’s eaten her lunch baby. Go play?”
“Mummy,” Keiron started.
“Yes baby?”
“Watch how high I go on the swing!” he shouted and turn to run off.
“Okay but don’t go too high you’ll be sick with all that lunch inside you!” Jayne shouted back as the two of them raced back over to the playground area.
Minutes later Karen got up, taking Jenna off of Chris and walked over to the play area leaving Jayne and Chris to sit and talk together. Jess was really excited when the two of them came over, and they went on the swings together which was the easy option, all Karen had to do was stand and push a bit and tell Jess how high she was going, which made her go even higher.
“Auntie Karen,” Jess started with a cheeky grin on her face. “Come on the see saw with me!” she shouted, and then jumped off the swing at it’s height, giving Karen the fright of her life thinking Jess would injure herself, but she just jumped right up again and ran off to the see saw.
Reluctantly, Karen lifted Jenna out of the swing and wandered over, wanting to know what she’d let herself into. Jess was already perched on one end when Karen got over there, and she had to put Jenna on first, which was a challenge in itself as she just didn’t want to sit with her the seat in between her legs and she wouldn’t stay still enough for Karen to get on. “Hold on sweetie while mummy gets on.” She said, trying not to let go of Jenna as she swung one leg over the seat and pulled herself on, the whole thing going down because of the weight difference and leaving Jess swinging high in the air, squealing. Wrapping her arms around Jenna tightly, Karen pushed with her feet, gently making it go up and down, both children laughing hysterically.
She heard more laughter as Jayne and Chris come up behind them and Chris started snapping away with the camera to capture the moment.
“Well I never, this I never thought I’d see,” Jayne laughed, Karen now laughing more than ever.
“Mummy get on!” Jess exclaimed, pointing behind her.
“Do I have to?” she groaned, but couldn’t help laughing still. Jayne did as she was told and steadied the see saw before climbing on, now Jess and Jayne’s side was heavier and left Karen and Jenna hanging, Chris in fits of laughter as the two women seemed to be having more fun than the children being pushed up and down.
Five minutes passed and Karen decided to end the fun and got off, this time Chris took Jenna off first, and Jayne soon followed her, and Keiron came racing over to get on the other end and play with his sister. After playing with Jenna on the slide for a bit, which involved Karen sliding down it with Jenna on top of her too, they went back over to their spot, and soon Jess and Keiron followed them, remembering about their promised ice cream.
“I’ll take them,” Chris said, rummaging around for his wallet in the bag.
“Ah thanks Chris, here you go then,” Jayne said, offering him a £10 note to buy them with.
“Don’t be silly Jayne, I’ll get them. Come on kids! What do you two want?” he asked Jayne and Karen before following the two excited kids who had already rushed off.
After ten minutes of endless going back and forth Chris was getting fed up, and just wanted to buy the ice creams and get back, he made them make up their minds by counting down and threatening to go back with nothing if they didn’t decide. In the end they both got 99 cones with flakes, and Chris bought himself and Jenna the same, and Karen and Jayne got magnums as requested. Jess and Kieron raced back with theirs and sat down next to Jayne to eat them, leaving Chris to carry the other 4, he hurried back so they didn’t all drip on the way, and handed them out.
By the time Jenna had finished hers it was everywhere, all over her face, on her nose, all over her hands, and she decided she didn’t want the cone and that it was a much better idea to throw it at her mummy, which Karen was not impressed with.
“Look at you mucky pup,” she couldn’t help but laugh. “Let’s clean you up,” she said, getting the wet wipes out her bag and wiping Jenna’s face and hands to get rid of all the stickiness. “What are you like…”
“She’s just like her mum,” Chris said, pointing at the splash of chocolate Karen had on her chest.
“Oh crap-“ she covered her mouth as the curse came out her mouth, they’d both been really careful since Jenna started talking. Chris reached for a wet wipe and dabbed it off the best he could for her, making her giggle as he touched her.
“You two will never change.” Jayne sighed.
“I think we’d better get going soon,” Chris said when he came back from putting all their rubbish in the bin. “Do you want me to go give them a warning?”
“Yeah they might listen to you… give them ten minutes.” Jayne agreed.
**
“Well it’s been a lovely day,” Jayne said, hugging Karen and Chris in turn once they’d got Jess and Kieron to come out of the playground, and they’d done so by practically dragging them out.
“Get Phil to ring me when he gets in yeah Jayne?”
“Right.” She laughed again.
They all said their goodbyes which were pointless when they then continued to chat as they made their way to their cars, and then said goodbyes and hugged again.
